Business Insider CEO Barbara Peng announced on May 20, 2026, that she will step down by the end of June 2026. Christian Baesler, Axel Springer senior advisor, will serve as interim leader while the company searches for a permanent successor. Peng has led the media company since 2023 during a period that included multiple rounds of layoffs and a 27 percent decline in paid subscribers from 2022 to 2025. Mathias Döpfner, CEO of Axel Springer, stated that Peng’s leadership was critical during BUSINESS INSIDER’s transformation.
