Bill Cassidy loses Louisiana Republican primary to Julia Letlow and John Fleming

Sen. Bill Cassidy lost the May 16, 2026 Louisiana GOP U.S. Senate primary. Julia Letlow and state Treasurer John Fleming advanced to a June 27 runoff. Letlow received a Trump endorsement. Cassidy received 24.8 percent of the vote in final tallies. Cassidy conceded the race and stated his country is not about one individual and that participants in democracy do not claim the election was stolen. Letlow stated that Louisiana did not forget Cassidy's 2021 vote to convict Trump. Fleming stated that the people of Louisiana proved a grassroots conservative can compete and win against the political establishment and outside dark money groups.
