Graphite published a study on May 15, 2026 showing that primarily AI-generated articles reached 49.9 percent of online articles in Q1 2026, equal to the 50.4 percent share of human-written articles. The analysis examined 55,400 randomly selected English-language URLs from Common Crawl published between January 2020 and March 2026 using three AI detectors: Pangram, Copyleaks and GPTZero. AI-generated content grew from 35.9 percent after the first 12 months post-ChatGPT launch in November 2022 to 48 percent by November 2024 before plateauing near 50 percent since Q1 2025. Graphite previously estimated AI-generated articles at 3.3 percentage points higher on average in an earlier single-detector study.
