Pentagon expands Scale AI contract to $500 million for Project Thunderforge

The Pentagon's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office awarded Scale AI a $500 million contract on May 6, 2026, for data analysis and AI-driven decision-making. The award represents a fivefold increase from the prior $100 million agreement signed in September 2025. Scale AI participates in the Defense Innovation Unit's Thunderforge program alongside Microsoft and Anduril for military operations AI. Scale AI also joins Palantir and Anduril as a contractor for President Trump's $185 billion Golden Dome missile defense project. Meta holds a 49% stake in Scale AI valued at $29 billion following the June 2025 investment.
