French Companies Bid $10 Billion for EU AI Gigafactory Site with Scaleway Involvement

Scaleway-led AION consortium with Iliad GENCI Inria Eviden SiPearl Hugging Face and Mistral-adjacent partners bids roughly $10 billion on May 20 2026 for one of European Union planned AI gigafactory sites in France. Project targets 200 megawatt French AI facility with more than 288000 H100-equivalent GPUs as largest single-country bid against multi-state proposals from Spain Germany and Netherlands. Iliad invested €20 billion in European infrastructure over past decade with AION figure putting roughly half that commitment into single facility. Scaleway CEO Damien Lucas stated Europe can no longer afford to outsource the foundations of its AI future.
