GitHub Copilot Shifts to Token-Based AI Credits Billing on June 1

GitHub Copilot transitions from premium request units to a token-based AI Credits system effective June 1, 2026. Base subscription prices for Pro and other plans remain unchanged while heavy users of agentic workflows, frontier models, and code review features may see significantly higher costs. GitHub released a billing preview tool at copilot-billing-preview.github.com for individuals and admins to download CSV usage data and project future costs. Code completions and Next Edit Suggestions remain unlimited under the new system.
