Variational Raises $50M Series A Led by Dragonfly for RWA Perps

Variational, a peer-to-peer onchain derivatives trading protocol, raised a $50 million Series A funding round on May 20, 2026, led by Dragonfly with participation from Bain Capital Crypto, Coinbase Ventures, and others. The round brings total funding to $61.8 million and coincides with the launch of the protocol’s first Real-World Asset perpetuals markets for gold, silver, copper, and WTI crude oil. The company has processed over $200 billion in trading volume since its 2025 private beta launch across more than 50,000 accounts and $750 million in open interest. Variational aggregates liquidity from traditional finance sources rather than building isolated order books, with Phase 2 direct TradFi routing planned for June 2026 and over 100 additional markets targeted this summer.
