2026 CISO Report from Cybersecurity Ventures and Sophos: 35,000 Full-Time CISOs Worldwide

Cybersecurity Ventures published the 2026 CISO Report in partnership with Sophos on March 24, 2026. The report states there are approximately 35,000 full-time CISOs worldwide serving an estimated 359 million businesses, creating a 10,000:1 business-to-CISO ratio. Sophos CEO Joe Levy noted in the report that the imbalance represents poor odds for most organizations. Sophos acquired Arco Cyber earlier in 2026 to launch CISO Advantage, an AI-assisted service that scales security leadership expertise to organizations without dedicated CISOs.
