GitHub Copilot shifts to usage-based billing with AI Credits effective June 1 2026

GitHub announced on April 27 2026 that Copilot plans transition to usage-based billing on June 1 2026 replacing premium request units with GitHub AI Credits based on token consumption. Copilot Business stays at $19 per user per month including $19 monthly AI Credits while Enterprise stays at $39 per user per month including $39 monthly AI Credits. Code completions and Next Edit suggestions consume no credits but advanced chat agentic workflows and model usage do. Businesses receive promotional credits of $30 for Business and $70 for Enterprise in June July and August 2026 with credits pooled across organizations.
