Sen. Bill Cassidy faces Trump retribution in Louisiana Senate primary election

U.S. Sen. Bill Cassidy entered the May 17, 2026, Louisiana Republican primary in third place behind Rep. Julia Letlow and State Treasurer John Fleming per RealClearPolitics polling. Cassidy chairs the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee and holds $5.5 million in cash on hand. Letlow holds $1.6 million and Fleming holds $1.4 million. Cassidy was reelected in 2020 with nearly 60% of the vote and previously served in the Louisiana Senate and U.S. House. He unseated former Sen. Mary Landrieu in 2014.
