Meta Executes Largest 2026 Layoff Round Affecting 8,000 Employees While Reassigning 7,000 to AI Roles

Meta plans to lay off about 8,000 employees in three batches representing roughly 10% of its 78,000-person workforce and reassign another 7,000 to new AI initiatives. Notifications began May 20, 2026, starting in Singapore at 4 AM local time under the internal name “Pralaydin.” The moves target elimination of managerial roles and open requisitions as the company shifts resources to AI workflows including Applied AI Engineering and Superintelligence Labs. Meta plans to invest between $125 billion and $145 billion in AI this year.
