Splunk Report Shows Global 2000 Downtime Costs Reach $600 Billion Annually

Cisco announced Splunk's Hidden Costs of Downtime research on May 19, 2026, finding aggregate unplanned downtime costs for Global 2000 companies reached $600 billion annually. The Oxford Economics survey of 2,000 executives showed average $95 million revenue loss per organization, $15,000 per minute outage cost, and 3.4 percent average stock price drop. Ransomware payouts averaged $40 million and regulatory fines $51 million, nearly tripled from 2024 levels. SVP and GM Kamal Hathi stated downtime is inevitable but prolonged disruption is not. Third-party SaaS downtime frequency tripled since 2024.
