Alibaba Swings to Operating Loss of 848 Million Yuan on AI Spending

Alibaba recorded an operating loss of 848 million yuan in the three months to end-March. Cloud Intelligence Group sales rose 38% year-on-year to $6 billion. The company aims for $100 billion in annual AI revenue within five years while analyst forecasts project the cloud arm at 44% of group revenue by 2031. Model training and chatbot costs appear in the All Others segment where EBITA losses rose 520% to more than $3 billion.
