The ACLU filed an EEOC complaint in March 2025 against HireVue and Intuit alleging video interview AI scored deaf, Indigenous and non-white applicants worse. The EU AI Act classifies hiring AI as high-risk with full deployer obligations from August 2, 2026 and fines up to 15 million euros. Illinois AIVIA requires written consent and human-review path while NYC Local Law 144 mandates bias audits. Companies cite candidate experience, legal risk and point-tool limitations as reasons for leaving HireVue.
