Telefónica prepares bid for AI gigafactory while Scaleway advances AION consortium

Telefónica has discussed scaling up in Europe with CEO Marc Murtra who took the top job in January 2025. Scaleway, the cloud services subsidiary of the France-based Iliad Group, has launched the AION consortium project to build Europe's next AI gigafactory. The Spanish operator prepares its final bid for an AI gigafactory in Spain. Scaleway launched the AION consortium for an AI gigafactory on May 14, 2026.
