Akamai Acquires LayerX for $205 Million to Add Browser AI Security Controls

Akamai Technologies agreed to acquire LayerX for approximately $205 million in an all-cash deal announced on May 17, 2026. The acquisition targets browser-based AI usage control and secure enterprise browser technology from the Israeli startup founded in 2022. LayerX provides visibility and control over AI tools and SaaS apps inside web browsers for enterprise users. Akamai plans to close the transaction in the third quarter of 2026 subject to standard conditions. LayerX previously reported vulnerabilities in Claude in Chrome.
