Global Payments Unveils AI-First Genius Handheld POS Platform

Global Payments Inc. unveiled an AI-first Genius handheld POS device on May 18, 2026. The device targets restaurants with features including AI-powered voice ordering that enables real customer conversations while the POS builds tickets in the background even in high noise, real-time upsell prompts, and natural language commands for updating pricing and menus. It includes advanced computing with local neural processing for inference workloads, multiple built-in microphones, 5G and offline connectivity, EMV and NFC payments with optional MSR, USB-C fast charging, and an ultra-thin design among the thinnest on the market. David Rumph, president of SMB for Global Payments, stated the handheld powers the next evolution of AI-driven commerce for restaurants; the launch coincides with the one-year anniversary of the Genius platform and was previewed at the NRA Show in Chicago from May 16 to 19, 2026.
