Vasilios Syrakis posted a 38-minute YouTube video on May 10, 2026 detailing the edge infrastructure systems he built over eight years at Atlassian. The video covers Envoy proxy replacing enterprise load balancers, sidecar architecture for auth logging and rate limits, DynamoDB plus SQS for async provisioning, and Packer plus SaltStack for automated VM deployments across 13 AWS regions. Atlassian cut around 1,600 employees or 10 percent of its workforce in March 2026 to redirect investment toward AI, with over 900 roles in software R&D affected. Vasilios Syrakis was one of the laid-off engineers from the infrastructure team supporting Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket for 350,000 customers.
