Business Insider CEO Barbara Peng told staff on May 20, 2026, that she will leave the company by the end of June 2026 to pursue new opportunities. Axel Springer senior advisor Christian Baesler will take over as interim leader after June 30, 2026. Peng’s tenure since 2023 involved declining subscriptions and four consecutive years of layoffs, including a recent staff cut of under 5 percent on May 13, 2026. The parent company Axel Springer owns Business Insider. Peng stated in a memo that for a techie builder like her the pull of new opportunities proved irresistible.
