AWS released Kiro on May 19 2026 as an AI coding tool that uses chatbot prompts to generate custom code with agentic features. Kiro runs on Anthropic Claude Sonnet 4 as primary model with Claude Sonnet 3.7 as backup option. Free tier remains available during preview with paid tiers set at Kiro Pro $19 per month and Kiro Pro+ $39 per month. Amazon Q Developer Pro subscribers receive free access to Kiro. Kiro competes directly with Cursor and Windsurf editors.
