Zed Adds Native ChatGPT Subscription Login for OpenAI Models

Zed announced on May 15, 2026 that users can sign in with ChatGPT accounts to access OpenAI models directly in Zed's agent. The integration uses personal ChatGPT subscription quotas for Codex capabilities without separate API billing. Users access models via Zed's agent, ACP adapter, CLI in terminal, or bring-your-own OpenAI API key for usage-based billing. This follows Anthropic's June 15 billing split and GitHub Copilot's June 1 usage-based shift. Zed thanks OpenAI for maintaining consumer subscription access amid industry moves to pay-per-use pricing.
