Meta hired Joshua Gross, a founding engineer at Mira Murati’s AI startup Thinking Machines Lab. Gross, who helped build the startup’s flagship product Tinker, joins Meta’s Superintelligence Labs to lead engineering teams. Meta has now recruited five founding members from the $12 billion startup, while OpenAI has also hired key staff. The move comes as the company ramps up spending on AI infrastructure, after raising its 2026 capital expenditure forecast by $10 billion to $125 billion-$145 billion. Despite these departures, Thinking Machines has rapidly expanded to around 130 employees and continues attracting top talent.
