Southampton FC CEO Phil Parsons issued a statement on 20 May 2026 appealing the Independent Disciplinary Commission decision to expel the club from the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs and impose a four-point deduction for the 2026/27 season. The club admitted breaches of EFL Regulations 3.4 and 127, apologized to other clubs and supporters, and confirmed full cooperation with the EFL investigation. Parsons compared the sanction to prior cases including Leeds United fined £200,000, Luton Town’s 30-point deduction in 2008/09, Derby County’s 21-point deduction in 2021, Everton’s six-point deduction in 2023/24 following £124.5 million losses, and Chelsea’s £10.75 million Premier League fine in March 2026. The club volunteered to join an EFL working group on Regulation 127 enforcement after the appeal.
