African Rainbow Energy led by Patrice Motsepe acquired a controlling stake in SOLA Group on May 13, 2026. ARE raised its shareholding from 41% to 83% over the R20 billion-plus renewable energy portfolio. SOLA Group founders Simon Haw, Chris Haw, and Dom Chennells step back from executive roles but remain non-executive directors and shareholders. Dom Wills returns as Group Chief Executive after leading rapid expansion from 2017 to 2024. SOLA currently has 1,100 MWp of solar photovoltaic capacity and 730 MWh of battery energy storage operational or under construction.
