OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy joined Anthropic on May 19, 2026 to lead a new pre-training research group using Claude. Karpathy previously led AI efforts at Tesla and founded Eureka Labs. Anthropic's valuation reached $900 billion after its recent funding round. The move follows Anthropic hiring Eric Boyd from Microsoft in April 2026 for infrastructure. OpenAI hired Anthropic safety researcher Dylan Scandinaro in February 2026.
