Minnesota Bonding Bill Secures $1.8 Million for Berger Fountain Restoration in Loring Park

Minnesota bonding bill passed in the House and Senate at 11:53 p.m. on May 17, 2026, securing $1.8 million for restoration of the Berger Fountain in Loring Park. Friends of Loring Park, Citizens for a Loring Park Community (CLPC), Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board and Berger Fountain Task Force led the decade-long advocacy campaign. The project includes a new accessible plaza with the restored fountain as centerpiece for community gatherings. Lee Frelich, President of CLPC, described the plaza as reclaiming the front porch of Loring Park. Phase One celebration is scheduled for May 21, 2026 at 3 p.m. in Loring Park.
