OpenAI Commits $234 Million for First Applied AI Lab in Singapore

OpenAI Inc. sets up its first applied AI lab outside the US in Singapore through a multiyear partnership with the Singapore government. OpenAI agreed to spend more than S$300 million ($234 million) on the lab, which will expand the Singapore-based technical team to more than 200 roles over the next few years. OpenAI opened its Singapore office in 2024. The Ministry of Digital Development and Information announced the OpenAI Singapore Applied AI Lab on May 20, 2026.
