Jensen Huang announced on May 13, 2026, at GTC that Nvidia's Blackwell GPU maintains form-fit-function compatibility with the Hopper architecture, allowing seamless replacement in existing systems. Blackwell features two fused dies connected at 10 terabytes per second bandwidth, eliminating memory locality and cache issues to function as a single unified chip with enhanced performance over Hopper's 28 billion transistors. Prior Hopper installations required full infrastructure overhauls for upgrades, but Blackwell supports identical power, thermal, and software configurations. Nvidia's HGX platform enables direct swapping of Hopper modules with Blackwell without redesign. Huang emphasized Blackwell's role in accelerating AI model training for customers like OpenAI and Google.
