NASA issued a Request for Proposal seeking industry partners to develop a Mars Telecommunications Network. The network aims for operational readiness at Mars no later than 2030 as part of the Moon to Mars strategy. Eligible bidders include Rocket Lab, SpaceX, Blue Origin, Lockheed Martin, and others. NASA previously appropriated $700 million for the Mars-orbiting spacecraft via the 2025 Working Families Tax Cut Act. Rocket Lab acquired Mynaric months earlier, positioning it for the contract with a June 15, 2026 proposal deadline.
