OpenAI CEO Sam Altman holds more than $2 billion in stakes across nine companies that have done business with OpenAI according to a court filing exhibited on May 13, 2026 in Elon Musk’s lawsuit. Altman’s holdings include $1.7 billion in Helion Energy, $633 million in Stripe, $258 million in Retro Biosciences, and $3.2 million in Cerebras with fair market values assessed as of December 31, 2025. Altman recused himself from OpenAI’s 2024 agreement with Helion and stepped down from Helion’s board in March 2026 while the lawsuit alleges breach of charitable trust and seeks $150 billion in damages plus Altman’s removal. Altman testified that he does not hold direct equity in OpenAI and his $4 billion net worth stems from prior venture investments.
