PagerDuty announced Shift-Based Schedules with general availability planned for later in May 2026. The feature replaces prior layer-based scheduling with intuitive recurring shifts, multi-responder support, shadow rotations for onboarding, and self-service options built on iCal standards. Existing customers retain access to both old and new systems while new customers receive the updated experience immediately upon rollout. The change supports global teams with follow-the-sun patterns and enables better context for AI-driven human-plus-agent incident response. V3 API compatibility applies, with an upgrade tool for legacy schedules.
