PayPal Launches Services in Sri Lanka Through Sampath Bank, Bank of Ceylon and Commercial Bank

PayPal launched its services in Sri Lanka on May 15, 2026 in partnership with Sampath Bank, Bank of Ceylon and Commercial Bank. Sampath Bank MD/CEO Sanjaya Gunewardena stated the launch enables local freelancers, entrepreneurs and SMEs to receive international payments and transfer funds to local or U.S. dollar accounts. Commercial Bank CEO Sanath Manatunge described the initiative as building the future of digital trade in Sri Lanka. The service initially routes through the three banks with more expected to join later. The partnership received guidance from the Government of Sri Lanka and the Central Bank.
