Nigeria's Sterling Bank partners Thunes to simplify remittances

Lagos-based Sterling Bank serving approximately one million customers partnered with Thunes to join its Direct Global Network for real-time cross-border payments. The alliance enables instant payments across more than 130 countries and over 80 currencies with rollout planned across multiple European markets for Nigerian expatriates. Daniel Parreira senior vice president of sales for Africa at Thunes called the addition another significant milestone in expansion across Africa. Thunes maintains offices in Abidjan Johannesburg and Nairobi and previously partnered with institutions such as Ecobank and Access Bank. The development follows Thunes $150 million Series D funding round in April 2025 earmarked for US expansion under CEO Peter De Caluwe who resumed the role in August 2025.
