Akamai Adds Paris 2 and Washington 2 Data Centers to Connected Cloud Platform

Akamai made Paris 2 in France and Washington 2 in the U.S. available to all customers in 2026. The new data centers support object storage, IP sharing, and BGP-based failover during and after beta. Services in these locations run free during the beta period before standard billing begins. Akamai Connected Cloud now includes these sites for distributed compute workloads. Region IDs are fr-par-2 and us-iad-2 respectively.

Anthropic Signs $1.8 Billion Seven-Year Cloud Deal with Akamai

Anthropic signed a $1.8 billion computing deal with Akamai Technologies reported on May 8, 2026. The seven-year contract supports Anthropic's AI workloads on Akamai's distributed cloud platform. Bloomberg identified the unnamed frontier model provider from Akamai's earnings as Anthropic. Akamai CEO Tom Leighton described it as the company's largest contract. The deal follows a prior $200 million CIS agreement with another major AI firm in February 2026.
